Inspired by the beauty encountered in nature, free-spiritied jewelry designer and artist, Suzannah Wainhouse makes beautiful, one of a kind and intricately handcrafted jewelry that is all about adornment and pleasure. As a visual artist and painter, Wainhouse uses her hands as tools to mold and carve her jewelry- a process that involves more sculpting than constructing, allowing the pieces to evolve and come to life in an environmentally conscious way. Using recycled silver and gold, Wainhouse remains an artist with a sense of raw abandon, “My hands were just vibrating, going back and forth from working in the paint to working with the metal.” Each piece emulates the irregularity of rock and the refined elegance of plants and leaves, separating her pieces from the machine-made objects we are surrounded with everyday. Wainhouse believes that her pieces will withstand the test of time and will outlive all explanation.
FASHIONOTES is always a sucker for artists who are influenced by ancient artifacts, and it’s refreshing to see a primitive aesthetic crafted with both a medium and motive from mother earth. We are just loving her latest oh-so-edgy collection for Spring 2011 available at Barneys.
