For this week’s Eye on E-Commerce, we look at Zappos’ luxury shopping destination, Zappos Couture, and the recent appointment of André Leon Talley as artistic director. The notable hiring is a one-year partnership with Talley overseeing editorial content. Established in 2004, the online retailer features apparel, shoes, licensed products, handbags, accessories and fragrances.
The former Vogue editor-at-large will expand his digital reach and create a web magazine for the Amazon-owned property. Certain to elevate not only the look and feel of the site but also the branding, Talley will manage fashion shoots, videos and trend selection. The high fashion content is set to debut January 22nd.
Current brands sold onsite include Alexander McQueen, Balmain, Givenchy, Lanvin and Prada. Zappos Couture seeks to raise its fashion credibility with high-end consumers by partnering with the fashion luminary. Another goal is vendor expansion and a wider merchandise assortment, especially in the apparel category. The online retailer definitely stands to benefit from the one-year contract. We look forward to seeing André Leon Talley’s golden touch applied to e-commerce.
