Last month I attended a Downy luncheon with scent expert Sue Phillips to take “The Fragrance Journey” and discover my very own signature infusion. On this journey, we were asked to complete a questionnaire to discover each of our inner scent personalities. At first I didn’t know what this questionnaire was going to be able to tell me but by answering the questions, the quiz revealed that I like Fresh scents and it couldn’t have been more right! I learned that this family includes citrus notes, such as lemon and grapefruit, as well as green notes and watery notes like the smell of rain after a rainstorm.
Scent is one of those things that easily triggers a memory, much the same as songs do, bringing you back to the first time you heard or smelled it. My first scent memory as a kid was the smell of fresh baked cookies and to this day I am absolutely obsessed with sweet, baking scents. The candles I burn in my bedroom are all sweet scents such as vanilla, pumpkin latte, sugar cookie, while the scents I wear on myself are fresher, simple and elegant.
Up until a few years ago, I never really used to be a perfume girl. I don’t know why but I would get sick of the scents that I wore very quickly and be turned off by them, never able to finish a bottle of perfume. Now I’ve done a complete 180 and feel naked if I leave the house without a couple spritzes of one of my favourite perfumes, an outfit isn’t complete without it! I have two scents that I wear religiously, my “signature scents” if you will; one that I wear in the summer months and the other that I wear in the winter months. The summer one is very fresh and the winter one, still fresh but a little heavier.
