This week Eye on E-Commerce gazes at M. Gemi, a Boston and Florence, Italy-based direct-to-consumer luxury Italian footwear startup. Co-founders Ben Fischman and Maria Gangemi, formerly of Rue La La as founder and SVP of European Luxury respectively, work with family-owned specialty factories in Italy to sell handcrafted shoes online and via mobile to U.S. consumers.
Without the additional overhead of wholesale and showroom operations for manufacturers, M. Gemi is able to pass along the savings in the form of lower price points for high-end luxury footwear. Flats, pumps and sandals are currently available for purchase onsite with new styles launching each Monday. M. Gemi ships anywhere in the U.S. and offers free shipping.
