This artist uses his iPhone in the best way yet – bringing pop culture to life, one photo at a time.
François Dourlen is a 32-year-old history teacher and amateur photographer from Cherbourg, France. He takes film, TV and video game stills of his favorite characters and places them in everyday settings, to produce to most unique artwork!
Believe it or not, all of this started by accident. One day he was making a joke with his friends and replaced a statue of Napoleon in Cherbourg with a picture of My Little Pony and put it on Facebook. People immediately liked and so he posted another and another, before realizing he could create a playful, fun and hilarious series of photos.
None of his work is planned; ideas come to him when he’s walking through the city. When he sees something he likes, he goes on Google and finds the perfect image to superimpose with the background.
François is quick to note that this isn’t his job. He takes photos for his amusement and believes photography is better as his hobby, because it gives him a creative outlet.
Whether it’s Thor hammering a nail into a picnic table or Marge Simpson on the Queen’s Guard, François Dourlen is giving followers a break from their day-to-day life, making him this week’s social media star.
Here’s a little piece of brilliant advice:
“The only advice I can give to those who want to grow their following on Instagram is to take original photos and always have fun. When you enjoy what you do, people respond to it. All forms of art are made to entertain people… so, first, entertain yourself.” - François Dourlen
