Wearable tech has come a long way in the last year or so. Gone are the chunky wristbands of yore and here are the sleeker, more streamlined models designed to not only improve your life, but make sure you look good while doing it. Now, Levi’s, the denim company we all know and love has taken wearables to a new level by teaming up with Google for a jacket that allows you to answer your phone.
Yes, you read that right. Soon you’ll be able to connect your outerwear with your smartphone and be able to answer calls on the go all by tugging at your jacket’s sleeve. Created with the biking commuter in mind, The Commuter Trucker jacket is powered with Jacquard by Google technology; sewn into the fabric is a patch of connective fibres that allows you to swipe over it to answer calls, ask Google Maps for directions, and change tracks on your playlist. It can even give you restaurant recommendations.
Your jacket can tell you where you should eat dinner. Now that is fashion and technology coming together for a truly great cause.
A small device, called the ‘smart tag’, is attached to the jacket’s sleeve and connects with your smartphone. It’s also removable, meaning you can adjust it so that your phone doesn’t get trapped into your bike pedals; for extra safety, you can even connect through Bluetooth. Gesture controls and commands can all be customized, meaning that you won’t have to stop while on the go to make sure your phone understands what you are saying. Better yet, it gives you all the info via audio, meaning you never have to handle your phone while biking (or let’s be real, walking) ever again.
The jacket will officially be available in Spring of 2017 in stores and online. While we wait, Google is doing some testing to see if the tech can be interchanged across garments. Let’s keep our fingers crossed, shall we?
