What better way to ring in the new year then by saying hello to the future with super cool new tech? CES, the Consumer Electronics Show just wrapped up in Las Vegas, Nevada this past weekend and luckily for us, what happens in Vegas did not stay in Vegas. This year’s CES gave us a wide variety of awesome new tech to look forward to and many that appeal to the FASHIONOTES mandate: fashion, technology, and sustainability.
Naturally, we’ve rounded up some of the coolest pieces of tech from CES 2017 that we think everyone should keep their eye on.
Sony Second Generation FES Watches
Forget chunky watches. Say goodbye to rose gold bands and giant faces. Say hello to paper thin watches instead. Sony unveiled the second generation of their Fashion Entertainments (FES) watches this CES and honestly? They’re pretty cool. While not a smartwatch (this one can’t stream video or start your car), it is practically paper thin and can change colors like a chameleon. Forget all the bells and whistles; here’s a cool wearable that will have people being like, “Did you make that out of construction paper from the Wizarding World? Why is it changing colour?” and do just what a watch is supposed to do: tell time.
Plume Labs Flow
Let’s face it - the air we breathe isn’t nearly as clean as it should be. This is especially true for city dwellers; the mayor of Paris is currently trying to make the city of love as pedestrian friendly as possible to get some of those cars off the road. While we all need to be doing our part to reduce carbon footprints and reduce pollution, Plume Labs has introduced Flow, a wearable device that allows you to track pollution around you. Flow tracks particulate matter (PM2.5), nitrogen dioxide, ozone, volatile organic compounds, temperature and humidity. Neat right? Flow is especially great for runners as it helps you know exactly the air quality you’re going to be breathing in when you get your workout on! Pre-orders for Flow are set to drop this spring… just in time for music festivals, runs along the waterfront, and patio dates.
Polaroid Pop
Instant cameras have made a comeback in a crazy way over the past few years. Thanks to Fujifilm’s Instax Mini Film cameras, it’s easier to snap a quick pic with your friends now than it was back in the 80s. But leave it up to the original superstars in instant film to take it to the next level. Polaroid Pop combines digital photography and good ol’ fashioned fun to give you an instant film camera that is truly fun. The Polaroid Pop has a built-in printer, allowing users to print photos on demand, but it also features an LED screen to display your photos and add filters before printing. This. Is. Awesome. The worst part about instant film is not knowing what you’re going to get (yours truly has a small handful of overexposed and not-at-all exposed polaroids from various outings) and with this feature, the Polaroid Pop takes out that suspense. It even connects to WiFi or Bluetooth to print photos from your smartphone. Just when you thought it couldn’t get any better.
Super Retro Boy
If there’s anything we loved in 2016, it was nostalgia. Who doesn’t love reminiscing about their childhood and simpler times (add an aggravated ‘Kids today!’ here)? 2017 is shaping up to be no different with the Super Retro Boy. While not an official Nintendo product, the Super Retro Boy is a take on the old school Game Boy. Who needs the latest gaming system when you can dust off your old Nintendo cartridges and play them instead? The Super Retro Boy plays Game Boy, Game Boy Color, and Game Boy Advance games. That’s right - that old copy you have of Pokemon Blue? It will work on the Super Retro Boy. Go on. Catch them all.
Motiv Fitness Ring
Here’s the thing about fitness wearables: they can be kind of clunky, and yeah, we’re going to say it: sometimes kind of ugly. While we have made great strides in creating chic and streamlined fitness trackers, Motiv took it one step further and put all of the capabilities of your standard fitness band into a ring. That’s right, a single small ring that tracks your activity, calories, steps, and sleep all while looking like a simple fashion accessory. With a three day charge, it gets better by being available in both rose and grey gold for some outfit coordinating choices. It can even be passed off as a super chic and modern wedding band for those awkward moments when you have to make up a spouse. You can always argue that you’re married to your fitness, anyway.
What did you think was the best from CES 2017? Anything you’re dying to get your hands on? Or were you underwhelmed and are already waiting for next year? Chime in and let us know. We love opinions.
