Spanish retailer, Mango has launched the Mango Committed capsule collection, a women’s and men’s 45-piece line made up of garments manufactured with sustainable materials.
Mango seems to be jumping right on board with fast-fashion’s eco-conscious movement following in the footsteps of industry giants H&M and Zara, both of which have been making efforts towards a more sustainable fashion future. H&M launched their first Conscious Collection in Spring 2011, and Zara just recently launched their first sustainable Join Life collection this past September in 2016.
Releasing this new Committed collection falls under Mango’s Corporate Social Responsibility mandate, termed the Take Action project. The long-term plan incorporates more sustainable business practices such as respecting animal rights when it comes to the use of leather and fur, participation in the Greenpeace Detox Project, and an in-store recycling program in partnership with Koopera.
What makes this collection a stand out? In addition to using organic and recycled cotton, and recycled polyester, the line features TENCEL®, the lyocell fiber from the house of Lenzing. It is of botanic origin, as it is extracted from the raw material wood. All garments have been dyed with environmentally-friendly inks and have been recognized with international certifications including GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard), OCS (Organic Cotton Standard) or GRS (Global Recycled Standard), among others which guarantee sustainable production.
The capsule collection is minimal with a modern sensibility: relaxed suits, structured sleeves, and sweatsuits, minimalist shapes rendered in earthy tones. Shot by Vogue photographer Josh Olins on model couple Raquel Zimmermann and Mathias Lauridsen. The Committed collection is not only wearable and stylish, but represents another fast-fashion’s commitment towards conscious style and accountability in the fashion industry. It’s now available at mango.com.
