H&M has released their first ever sustainably-led sport collection.
With the tagline, “In it for the long run”, H&M continues to show their dedication towards becoming a 100% circular company, creating a closed loop for all textiles by 2030 - this time, with sportswear.
The new sport collection is made entirely from sustainable materials, blending fashion design and function. Inspired by nature and strong women, the line includes a range of athletic wear pieces including tights, sports bras, hoodies, and tops for training, running and yoga.
With an emphasis on nature and sustainability, the prints and color palette reflect the context in the most literal sense with earth tones of green, black and beige. Recycled polyester and elastane are two feature fabrics used throughout the line. Functional details like quick-dry and seamless provide comfort, support and ventilation.
“By bringing together the functional and feminine, the aim is to give customers a stylish, conscious sports collection. And not just through the fabrics - we utilized a new knitting technique that creates seamless garments while using less yarn or fabric waste. Blending function with sustainable thinking and fashion in this way is the way forward,” says Petra Smeds, Head Designer of Sportswear for H&M.
The collection characterizes H&M’s continue commitment to sustainability. With a goal to create a closed loop for textiles in which unwanted clothes can be reused or recycled into new treasures, with the ultimate goal that by 2030 all of the products that H&M sells willl be made of more sustainable or recycled materials. The collection is available at H&M stores and online at hm.com.
