Seen in Fenty Beauty, Burberry, LV and Chanel campaigns, Shudu and Miquela are digital simulations created by layering 3D models and photographs.
Meet Shudu: Birthed by self-taught British photographer Cameron James, Shudu is breathtakingly beautiful. James describes her as a “fantasy trying to break through reality.” Inspired by black supermodels Alek Wek, Naomi Campbell and Duckie Thot, Shudu she has challenged what it means to be model in the tech age. Meet Lil Miquela: the Brazilian American Gen Y Instagram model and music artist from Downey, California. Full name, Miquela Sousa has tracks on Spotify, and often posts photos of herself at the beach, art shows and most exclusive events. She’s socially conscious and shares memes and beauty trends. Since making her social media debut in April 2016, Miquela has since gained mass popularity most notably for the controversy surrounding her real vs. virtual existence. She has been featured in the likes of VOGUE, Paper, and Interview Magazines.
