H&M’s 2018 Conscious collection combines femininity and renewable textiles for 2018.
Spring is here, which means a new season of sustainable fashion from H&M who has just released its latest Conscious collection powered by ECONYL.
Utilizing regenerated and organic textiles, H&M has created it’s seventh Conscious collection using materials like organic linen, organic cotton, organic silk, tencel, and recycled polyester. The new player? Econyl, a 100% regenerated nylon fibre made from fishnets and other nylon waste.
This year’s collection is centered around sustainable femininity seen through the lens of Swedish artist, Karin Larsson. Statement pieces paired with a soft colour palette. It has a romantic vibe consisting of green tones, black and white, with hints of dusky blue and powder pink. A full-length dress with organic cotton embroidery is a feature piece with a green floral metallic jacquard full-length dress made from recycled polyester. Black floral jacquard trouser suits and cropped flare trousers make up a contemporary aesthetic.
Decadent accessories include satin mules made from recycled polyester, and printed scarves of a Tencel blend. Delicate pouch handbags made with recycled plastic beads and sequins add an eco-luxe flair.
“It is a great thrill to introduce two new sustainable materials into the collection. By creating gorgeous lace made of Econyl, we continue to stretch the boundaries of sustainable fashion,” said Ann-Sofie Johansson, creative advisor at H&M. “Also, the work of Karin Larsson in particular took on a lot of significance, her stylised motifs, bold compositions and use of colour throughout the house were ahead of its time. She was such a strong woman and it’s that spirit that we channelled.”
This year’s campaign was shot by fashion photographer, Mikael Jansson and stars Aamito Lagum, Giedrė Dukauskaitė and Christy Turlington Burns.
