Tech Thursdays: The Siren Ring

By Francesca Castor on November 13, 2014

Even though wearable tech is innovative, stylish and the latest craze, there are times when they are created for a good cause. Enter, the SIREN Ring – wearable tech that protects the wearer.

Created by Kat Alexander and inspired by a ‘scary encounter at school’, the SIREN Ring was born. Rather than focus on notifications from your phone, this ring focuses mostly on the personal safety of the wearer.

Designed for everyday use, this can be charged via USB-compliant Type A connector. It has LEDs that signal when the ring is fully charged and when it needs to be charged. It’s available in a silver or gold finish and to the untrained eye, looks like a typical ring. However, with the twist of the jewel the wearer is able to protect himself or herself from danger with a 110 decibel alarm. It’s also noted that it is most effective within a three-foot radius.

The SIREN Ring is an interesting indicator of the times that we currently live in. More and more innovations are being created to help women feel safe. While we are thankful for these innovations, we hope that more and more of these accessories can be easily available to those who really need it.
