Sustainability has proven to be more than just a trend, it’s become a lifestyle, and for many designers, a brand philosophy. Globally, there are a number of fashion brands from big to small who’ve carried the flag for a new and more sustainable fashion future. Among this group is Dutch designer, Elsein Gringhuis, whose namesake brand has recently caught the attention of international media for her latest collection, “Blendscapes”.
As the title implies, “Blendscapes” shows an ethereal collection blending into the landscapes. The landscapes of island of Schiermonnikoog, in northern Netherlands, inspired Gringhuis’ designs and campaign, for which the designer teamed up with photographer Tse Kao to create a series of images. This surrealistic effect conveys the essence of the collection, whereby actual images of the island are printed on the garments from dresses to pant suits bringing the designs to another dimension.
The campaign is a true reflection of the brand’s spirit. Elsien Gringhuis is a high-end, sustainable label with a focus on the essence of clothing, as they describe on their website. Elsien’s designs are timeless, clean, and minimalistic, always paying attention to the finer details. They’re meant to last. All products are designed and produced locally in Holland to promote the country’s manufacturing industry.
Furthering Gringhuis’ efforts in sustainability, the designer distances herself from seasonal collections by creating basic collections, which the studio calls “Books”. “Books” are then complemented regularly by a number of styles, which they call “Chapters”. Marching to her own rhythm, each style remains in stock as long as the original fabric is available.
No wonder the brand, created in 2009, is making an impact among media and buyers. Elsien Gringhuis is sold in the Netherlands, Germany, Switzerland, Belgium, Norway and Abu Dhabi, as well as online in their e-shop. Prices range from 200 to 700 euros ($210 - $700 USD).
