The Green Carpet Awards Italia celebrates designers committed to high-fashion sustainability .
This year’s #GCFItalia brought together Italy’s greatest designers from emerging talents to luxury powerhouses all gathering for a common good. It is the first of fashion awards to honour Made in Italy – one of the most important supply chains to the industry in the world.
The program was designed and implemented by Camera Nazionale della Moda (CNMI), in collaboration with Eco-Age, and with the support of the Ministry of Economic Development (MISE), the Italian Trade Agency (ITA) and the patronage of the Municipality of Milan. This year has truly seen an eco-conscious shift in the world of high-fashion and its upcoming talent.
With environmentalism and fashion going more hand-in-hand than ever, recent findings on apparel production have shown an increasingly positive effect on the planet as the industry contributes to some of the highest carbon footprints of any industry, including high usage of water.
The Green Carpet awards took place in Milan during SS18 fashion week and showcased innovative design and ethical production. Designers on display included Stella McCartney, Gucci, Miu Miu, Fendi and Prada to name a few. Crafted from organic silk to archival pieces, each look was produced using sustainable - low impact textiles. The night drew celebrities such as Naomi Campbell, Zoe Saldana and Carolina Karnakova.
Gisele Bundchen was seen in a gorgeous sleek and fitted emerald green frock crafted from sustainable viscose. Arizona Muse wore archived minimalistic look by Stella McCartney. Dakota Johnson wore a Gucci gown made of biological organic silk. Matilde Astelli was in Miu Miu and Kasia Smutniak in Fendi. But the true stars of the night were those honored for their commitment to sustainable apparel production.
Awards were given according to categories such as: the Eco Laureate won by Gisele Bündchen; the CNMI Green Carpet Challenge Competition won by Giorgio Armani, Miuccia Prada, Pierpaolo Piccioli and Alessandro Michele; and the GCC Green Carpet Challenge won by Tiziano Guardini.
Explore the event that is helping to change the industry for the better with sustainability in high fashion. We’re looking forward to next year’s Green Carpet event.
