Gucci says no to fur as part of a new sustainability initiative. Gucci’s president and CEO, Marco Bizzarri along with new creative director, Alessandro Michele have announced a new direction for the Italian high fashion house.
From out the of this world eclectic collections, inspired by retro sci-fi to meme based advertising, Gucci is connecting with a much younger generation - one that loves fashion, but also cares about the world. Recently, the label announced they are taking a bold stance against the use of fur in their future collections.
Ethical fashion, sustainability and environmentalism is now part of the labels mission and to start fur will no longer be part of their collections, starting with Spring/Summer 18. Instead the focus will be on faux-fur, wool and new fabric innovations.
To show their commitment, they have signed up to the Fur Free Alliance, an organization that promises to end exploitation and killing of animals for fur, as part of a wider sustainability plan. Gucci was also present for the Green Carpet awards, whereby Dakota Johnson wore a gown made of biological organic silk.
The powerhouse label joins Stella McCartney, Calvin Klein, Theory, and Edun in high fashion sustainability. We’re excited to see how Gucci’s new sustainable and no fur commitment will drive their innovation and creativity with alternative materials. It’s no doubt that other high fashion labels will soon follow suit.
