The world’s first sustainable faux fur is here. Finally, a warm & cozy option that is cruelty-free and good for the planet.
Stella McCartney’s latest sustainable fashion endeavor includes the world’s first-ever bio-based faux fur and it’s major news.
Known as a pioneer in sustainable fashion, Stella’s recent pet project is sustainable fur made from plant and recycled fibers known as Koba. The faux fur originally innovated by ECOPEL is made with Sorona® plant-based fibers and recycled polyester.
This is truly revolutionary, given faux fur’s past questionable sustainability status. Faux fur has had its own issues as not entirely ethical and manufactured by people in shocking working conditions. Additionally, faux furs are made from petroleum-based products and polyester/acrylic mixes, and they can take approximately 1,000 years to biodegrade! Let that sink in.
Stella McCartney’s newest capsule of faux fur coats using Koba are not only chic, but Anna Wintour approved. The first prototype was revealed at Stella’s Summer 2020 show in Paris and debuted by supermodel Natalia Vodianova.
Sustainability is at the very ethos of the Stella McCartney brand, which has consistently proved that ethical practices and luxury can go and in hand. Recent sustainable fashion collaborations include Parley, Adidas and Bolt Threads. Expect to see this incredible new fabric rolled out as part of Stella’s collections this year.
