With a hit single and visual, “Don’t Touch My Hair” speaks to black beauty and pride through a lens of undeniable eccentric aesthetic, which is true Solange style. Solange is female magic personified, complete with style and grace. So it’s no surprise that her recent Tidal exclusive digital release of “Seat At The Table” is a love letter of hope wrapped in electro-R&B vibes.
The First single “Don’t Touch My Hair” is making waves for its lyrics, high-digital download, theme and aesthetically beautiful paired visuals. “Don’t Touch My Hair,” featuring Sampha, is at number 14 on the charts with 4.9 million streams and 4,000 downloads.
The record and digital content is unique and speaks to love, depression and living; Solange poured her heart into this record. Solange releases viral worthy visuals for “Seat at the Table” and it’s stylish and unapologetically urban. The visual is an array of monochromatic scenes, where Solange undoubtedly shows off her eccentric style, combined with low to high-street indie fashion and alternative dance. Solange has described this LP as a “project on identity, empowerment, independence, grief and healing.”
Creatively-curated scenes are full of motion and styled to perfection with looks by feature designer Phlemuns and hair styled by Nikki Nelms. Each look transitions from traditional African braids, beaded braids - to short cropped marcel waves and wavy brushed hair. Solange’s indie outfit style paired well with up and coming Los Angeles, sustainable designer James Flemuns. He is known to dress upcoming African-American artists in L.A. including: Amandla Stenberg, Tinashe, Jhene Aiko and now Solange. James Flemons style is not only unique, but it’s taking the idea of deconstruction to a sustainable, high-fashion level.
Starting with the deconstruction of pre-worn denim, his aesthetic is clear and we are not surprised stylist, Shioni Turini, was able to create looks for Solange and her dancers with a throwback vibe. The two-piece set, Phlemuns pieces designed for the video included a mustard grommet laced bralette and a high-waisted short, paired with a mod-style heel. Each look encompasses a color of the spectrum, a stunning rendition of indie, paired with hypnotizing vocals. This visual is a must see.
